Smyth and Helwys Uniform Lesson Outlines, February, 2010

Note: For additional lesson help, visit <www.helwys.com/premium>

User name: Uniform,  Premium Code: ut2010ja

For those using the Smyth- Helwys Adult Uniform lesson series during February the lessons are found in the Gospel of  Matthew, Chapters 15 – 28, and entitled “Testimonies to Jesus as the Messiah.”

One of the main goals of Matthew's gospel was to prove that Jesus was the long expected Messiah. As Matthew writes he makes over 50 references to the Old Testament showing passages that connect Jesus with both the past and future. He also references the personal experience of several individuals in that day who come to realize that Jesus is indeed the Son of God.

Feb. 7,  Recognized by a Canaanite Woman, Matt. 15:21 – 28.  Her persistent faith was rewarded when Jesus healed her daughter.

Feb. 14,  Declared by Peter, Matt. 16:13 – 27.  When questioned about personal faith, Peter forthrightly declared his belief before the other apostles.

Feb. 21,  Witnessed by Disciples, Matt. 17:1 – 12.  The disciples have an incredible religious experience during a retreat on the Mount of Transfiguration with Jesus.

Feb. 28,  Anointed by a Woman in Bethany, Matt; 26: 54 – 58.  A woman in Bethany challenges us all to demonstrate our love and devotion for Jesus in tangible ways.

Looking ahead: The biblical studies in March will provide illustrations where God openly shared His kindness and compassion to foreigners. The ancient Hebrews thought God 's spiritual relationship was only for them. The short stories of Ruth and Jonah show otherwise.

Suggestion: To enhance your personal lesson studies purchase a Bible commentary for your home library. Also, a good supply of Bible commentaries are found in the church library and available at no cost. Study is also improved by bringing your Bible to class and recording inspirational thoughts in the margins.
